Three of my favorite people are graduating from college and embarking on their respective life journeys in the coming weeks.

I first called them strangers when we met a year and a half ago in Long Island City, Queens. I then called them roommates over the following months, and by the time we parted ways for my graduation last May, I called them lifelong friends. Now it’s their turn to see where life takes them, and as someone who’s been at this “real world” thing for a year now, I couldn’t resist sending some words to carry with them along the way.

I used a beautifully aged children’s book (I love the way yellowed pages look) and acrylics to make these notes.

My older sister, Julia, is turning 26 this week. Let’s just say she isn’t too jazzed about landing on the other side of 25. I figured I’d lighten this morose occasion by creating a sunny dressing for her present. :) Happy Birthday Sis!

I have always enjoyed wrapping presents. It appeals to the creative in me because I love to make them look extra special and personal. I decided to have a go at making my own holiday wrapping paper designs this year. Here is the first result - a Christmas gift for my older sister. She loves that organic, bohemian style, so I thought the recycled paper and natural twine would be especially fitting.

A special friend deserves a special card. I try to use the recipient of my cards as inspiration for the drawing. Anna is all at once edgy, soft, vibrant, mellow and sweet.

I love the delicate, translucent quality of watercolor, which is why I work with it so much. But then, this past week I unearthed my old pastels and cheated on painting a little.

I will always, always come back to the faithful, elegant line in my artwork. Here is its latest application in a monogrammed card I sent to some friends.

S.H.E Project Logos: Idea One

I liked the idea of making a woman’s profile central to the idea. I also wanted to incorporate feminine details, so I made the “S” into a ponytail of sorts, and the “H” into a headband. The semi-circles are meant to look like an ethnic head-dress.

The job hunt is a great excuse for creativity. Here’s a thank you I sent to an incredible person who clued me in on a great job opening. Here’s to hoping I get the job!
